People should be able to opt out of either government mandated insurance or with paying the penalty. Its just like most of the states where you have to show financial responsibility to register your car if you do not have auto insurance. The people opting out should either sign a "Living Will" that "no care should be provided to them until someone can deposit money for care; or have a bond to cover the expenses; or deposit $1000 with fire department for ambulance, deposit money for few hours of emergency care with the hospital, etc..." You get the point. The "Living Will" should also state that they or anyone on their behalf will not be allowed to sue if any care is not given due to lack of funds. Since they make this decision why should the tax payers be responsible for their care if they are not able to pay for the care.
Pleasantly surprised by the new Crossfire. Not another "yelling heads" show. Thoughtful, respectful, not loaded with partisan talking points and jargon. Nice.
The compassionate Conservative wants to help the needy from the moral goodness of his heart.
He cannot do that when the government steals his wealth and spreads it among the needy and wanty without discernment.
He wants to help those in need. He wants to help the disabled to eat, live, and find meaningful work to contribute to society – even if they consume more than they can provide.
He wants to help the lazy with HUNGER, so that the lazy will get up and work.
It is not compassionate in enabling laziness, lethargy, and sloth – particularly not with resources that should be going to those who CANNOT, not those who DO NOT or CHOOSE NOT to work.
If a man can work and you provide him means not to work, you are not being compassionate. You are tempting him to a life of worthlessness.
Well said buddy.
Ditto
At first I was trying to think of who the compassionate Conservative was exactly. Maybe one of Santa's elves or maybe Santa himself - or one of those guys who help the Easter Bunny.
Then I had a moment of realization that it would make a very excellent TV series, regardless. "Compassionate Conservative." Like, we call him "CC" - for short. CC Rider.
So, he rides into town on a really cool bike and he sees these lethargic sloths hanging around the malt shop. So he gets off his bike and goes over, "Hey man – sup?"
"Oh just hangin really. They shipped our jobs to Mexico so they wouldn't have to pay minimum wage or anything and - "
"That's only excuses! You obviously just choose to not work! What about that factory outside of town?"
"Oh yeah - T Boone Pickens, the great humanitarian, did a hostile takover and sold all the equipment to the Chinese."
Well, You need to get out there and tell them you will work for less money than the Mexicans and the Chinese and you don't need heathcare or any equipment - you are Special! Americans! "
"Yes! You are right, CC! Thanks millions for saving us from our slothfulness! Can you teach us to fish during our lunch break - assuming they let us have one?"
"Straight up man! " Thumbs up gesture.
Drumroll - camera pans out to catch the greatly excited sloths singing "Hi Ho Hi Ho It's off to work we go" mixed with chants "A ton of peaches picked and carried for a dollar! "
Blend to "CC Rider", Reprise.
CC hops on his bike and lights a Camel - no scratch that - pops a nicorette gum into his mouth. Kick start the bike. CC rides off in the distance as the camera zooms and fades.
Roll Credits. Fade Cut.
The Supreme Court ruled that Obamacare is a TAX- The version of Obamacare that passed originated in the Senate-According to the Constitution all taxes must originate in the House. Obamacare was passed illegally and is unconstitutional as a tax-it cannot be legal as a tax –it is not legal as a tax -WHY IS THE MEDIA SILENT ABOUT IT?They covered the decision that it was a tax-but not the fact that as a tax it must be sent back to the House of Representatives to be written and approved before it can be implemented!
Compassionate conservatives have been "primaried" out.
LOL That's like asking "Where is Santa Clause" or "What time does the Easter Bunny get here"?
Apparently there were 2 Republicans and a leftist (who doesn't like President Obama) arguing a lot of tangents and I didn't hear any answer. But it's hard to debate an oxymoron like "compassionate conservative." The best answer would probably be Eisenhower. He was a Republican but he loved his country far more than the party.
It would have been a much better "debate" if Stephanie Cutter had been there.
Where are the democrats with a brain? (Rhetorical question)
Go ahead rightie, thump your bible, and stomp on the "lesser of these my brothers".
F'ing hypocrite!
Obama won. Twice. Get over it.
In my post I was discussing Cornell West only and no other issue.
@Ernie, thank you for your display of ignorant hyperbolic racism.
Please state what he said that is racist.
"A caricature of some bygone era of tokenism."
Given Prof. West's incoherent presentations, there is no other explanation for his presence. Contrast West's thoughts with those of Van Jones. Though I frequently view subjects differently than Jones , his arguments are lucid , logical , and concise. He often gives me pause about my own positions. West simply comes off as an archaic buffoon.
Thanks for asking a relevant question. I am not racist nor did I make any racist remark. I pointed out that Mr. West hardly needs to spout his non-sense on a national forum . He lives totally immersed in a wealthy ,industrialized society yet rails at same.
He complains about big corporations and the wealthy. When struck with prostate cancer its safe to assume he visited an extremely well paid physician, was diagnosed using a GE CAT scan or MRI , utilized the most modern pharmaceuticals(Merk et al ) all of which was paid for by a large insurance company, funded by the massive Princeton endowment. Yet his gratitude is to rail against "the system". You can't have it both ways pal.
You can't call racism just because someone is commenting on a black man. I bet your the same guy who would call a black conservative an Uncle Tom. Though this is how you liberals are getting away with social and political murder. You just call anything conservative... hateful, ignorant and racist and people back off because everyone is scared. You call conservatives ignorant and yet you refuse to see the truths on our side.
Compassion? there isnt any
Larry Summers also questioned the intellect of women, are we going to ignore what women say because Larry Summers said so? Cornell West is many things, and seems to have gotten under your skin, but stupid isn't one of them.
Cornell West is not qualified to be a college professor . No less than Larry Summers basically pointed this out years ago while at Harvard.
The purpose of your show , as I understand it , is to have an intellectual discussion on topics of the day. West is simply pitiful and so mentally deficient and incoherent it becomes painful to watch. A caricature of some bygone era of tokenism.
If you continue with guests of this caliber , your show won't last.....nor should it.
Ernie – Before you go talking about someone you need to take a look at yourself. You are nothing more than a miseducated, ignorant and illiterate fool that can't even type up a grammatically correct sentence. Stay off of this blog dummy and go back to watching your WHITE TRASH Fox News fool!
such anger.............mr. Silversham.
Dear Van:
You brought up Israel's vs the US's medical systems to Bill Krystol. One being single payer government run system and the other being a private market solution. But you missed the punchline. Our medical system is 17% of GDP while Israel as well as all other developed countries are around 9-10% of GDP. Their administrative costs are 5% and ours are 15%. Our medical system is going to bankrupt us. We need to know where the differences are and correct our system whether it is ObamaCare or not.
Sig Gronich
So very true, the vast majority of our country is one hospital stay away from bankrupsy.
Cornel West represents everything that is wrong in America!
