Good luck fighting criminals without guns. They can get bombs, poison gas, whatever, so they can get you before you reach for your slingshot. You would give up when you first see them.

How would Hillary know that owners of "Assault Weapons" are a minority in this country? The Federal Government is forbidden from keeping a "registry" database on firearms, so how can Hillary make an educated statement about these guns? Is this a de facto admission of NSA's Surveillance State & the Federal Government breaking the law? As to the Montgomery County Teacher on the show who states: "No one needs a high capacity magazine." Who are you to tell me what I need/ don't need? Do you or your significant other own a car that can drive over the legal speed limit on the freeway? If you do, a governor should be installed on your engine because no one needs to go over the speed limit. !

People are the problem, not firearms. This said I feel that background checks should be mandatory. No exceptions! Any felon can attend a gun show and purchase all the firearms he has the cash for, no questions asked. Ditto : gang members, illegal immigrants, mentally unbalanced, terrorists etc. Everyone has to register and license most motor vehicles and the same for watercraft and aircraft of most types. If an individual has nothing to hide this should be no big deal. The purpose of the Second Amendment was to provide for the common defense of this great nation, ( see Preamble to the Constitution) as individuals were all we had when the Revolutionary War began. Sorry, Wayne LaPierre and the rest of your Kool-Aid cronies. Signed, a former NRA member who volunteered and fought for this great country with loyalty to the cause, respect for my fellow Americans, and hope for eternal wisdom and peace.

Hillary can't even control her philandering husband, how does she expect to control a country? Let alone try to strike down one of the original ten articles of the constitution. She is a lame duck, a liar, and a hypocrite who cares as much about women's rights as the rapist she defended. Her ruler is the dollar and power and she will tell whatever lies she has to to get both!

The fact is, people can be liable for criminal negligence without being experts in psychology. Gun dealers are not immune to the law of negligence. You can be liable for negligence if you give your car to someone who then gets into an accident. We don't need to ban cars or anything like that. If gun dealers don't want to check people's background before selling guns, fine, but they will have to take the risk that they are selling guns to mass shooters.

Guns are not regulated enough. The recent rash of mass shootings proves it. We need stricter gun laws if the current laws are inadequate.

    June 20, 2014 at 12:56 pm |

The fact is your original argument sucked and you won't admit it. For the crazies if they didn't have guns they would find another way, example given: Oklahoma City bombing in '95. What is needed is a government that is not hell bent in producing a culture of give me, you owe me. Assume liberals succeeded in disarming America (by force, because that is the only way it could happen) do you know what the result would be? This ( Apr 22, 2014 – "At least 36 people have been shot, four of them killed ... in Chicago violence since Friday) times thousands, because you can not regulate criminal.

Read all 243 pages of: FEDERAL FIREARMS REGULATIONS REFERENCE GUIDE, then when you are finished search and read all of the laws from each of the 50 states. What you will find is that until obamacare, the gun industry, and its (legal) users are the most regulated ever.

    • Anthony

I am not trying to disarm America. I am trying to hold people responsible for selling guns to people who should not have them. The law of negligence applies to negligent people, not guns. You don't even need to pass a new law for this. If you give your car to your kid who then gets into an accident, a court can find you negligent. No new law is needed.

If people are still dying from mass shootings, then guns are not regulated enough. You can cry about your constitutional right as much as you want. Other people have the constitutional right to live.

Foolish and dangerous thinking. All killing/murder is wrong mass or otherwise regardless of the method. You can cry about your constitutional right as much as you want. Other people have the constitutional right to bear arms and that right ensures all other rights are followed by the government. When you remove that right, you enable a government to enforce their will on its people. That includes you wimp!

Your argument that the crazies would get their hands on guns anyway does not work. Let me give you an example. If people would try to get drugs like heroin anyway even though there are laws banning them, does it mean that the government should not bother banning drugs like heroin?

Reading comprehension eludes you. I didn't say the crazies would get their hands on guns anyway (although they could), I said they would find another way, meaning bombs, poison, flying planes into buildings. That drug analogy was stupid and pointless.

About your ridiculous comment on OK city, the NRA killed a bill requiring explosives to be tagged w/micro ceramic beads that would trace the explosive back to its source. By the way, the gun source of choice for Mex. cartels, is the unregulated gun shows in Arizona. If you pull your head out of La Pierre's backside, your ears wouldn't get so full of manure.

The facts about California's restrictive gun laws and their ineffectiveness in preventing gun violence specifically the UC Santa Barbara tragedy:

California already requires background checks for all firearm transfers.

    California already has firearm registration.

California already imposes a 10-round limit on magazine capacity.

California already restricts a person from obtaining more than one handgun in a 30-day period.

California already imposes waiting periods on the purchase of firearms.

California already expansively bans and regulates semi-automatic firearms under the rubric of “assault weapons.”

California already has “mental health” related restrictions on firearms, based merely on evaluations and reports by clinicians.

The perpetrator of the Isla Vista attack obtained his firearms legally.

The perpetrator of the Isla Vista attack was under ongoing psychiatric care at the time he planned and committed his crimes.

The perpetrator of the Isla Vista attack was visited by police for a well-being check a few weeks before his crime spree.

Gun laws will not stop mentally impaired or unstable people from getting guns. This country is growing and more and more of these people are living in our society. I wish the NRA would take the lead in helping congress work on laws that help families a police put these people away so we don't continue to watch people die. One of these people killed with a knife not a gun. I am a Democrat but a loyal gun person. Guns are not the problem I was raised on guns and I was taught how to respect guns as they can be dangerous if you are careless. Don't ever hide guns only leads to trouble. My dad showed all of us boys were they were and what would happen if you did mess with. Educate don't abuse guns the more we know the less people get hurt, but we still must take care of the unstable.

I'm am sure that if the founding fathers were here today and actually saw the way this country has gotten out of hand with guns and violence they would change the 2nd amendmentnd and place tougher laws on people who purchase guns or make it impossible for regular civilians to be able to purchase guns. It's good that at least someone still has a backbone to stand up against people who contributes so much to violence, drugs and wars

I can tell you are a democrat because you don't get the real issue. By far the majority of gun violence in this country is not perpetrated by gun owners, it is caused by those unstable and lawless individuals that will not follow the law. So what do democrats want to do, take the guns away from those adhering to the laws and that by far don't commit these crimes. Democrats = no common sense.

Gun dealers who sell guns to mentally unbalanced people are criminally negligent. They should be charged with involuntary manslaughter when others die from their negligence, e.g., when there is a mass shooting.

"Gun dealers who sell guns to mentally unbalanced people are criminally negligent"

So now you want gun dealers to be experts in the field of psychology and identify all unbalanced persons. Uhm, interesting analysis, I guess that would include car dealers who sold a car to someone that killed someone else, department stores who sold knives to persons that used a knife to murder someone, hardware stores who sold ropes used to strangle people, sports equipment dealers who sold a bat used to murder someone. Do you liberals not ever think for yourselves?

They don't need to be experts in psychology. Being experts in psychology is not an element of the crime. Unlike the things you mentioned, guns are designed to kill. Cars, knifes, ropes all have other uses. Just because we don't regulate knifes and ropes, it does not mean that we can't regulate anything else. By your logic, nothing can be regulated, not even nuclear weapons.

Taking about ignorance, it would be virtually impossible to judge the mental capacity of everyone, Case in point YOU, Assume you succeed in passing a law that forces that stupidity on gun dealers and they misinterpret a persons mentality. That person could then sue the dealer. The other examples I gave are every bit as relevant. That person buying the gun for protection, hunting, recreation has as much a right make his/her purchase as the person buying the car, knife, rope or bat. It never ceases to amaze me of liberal stupidity. Guns are already regulated dumb jazz.

"The fact is, people can be liable for criminal negligence without being experts in psychology."

The fact is proving criminal negligence is difficult under any circumstance. Multiply that by 1000 when applying this stupid idea to the subjectiveness of psychology to gun dealers.

"Gun dealers are not immune to the law of negligence."

Existing laws to a reasonable degree. To your cry baby law, no fing way!

"You can be liable for negligence if you give your car to someone who then gets into an accident."

Come on dhead, your stretching it to come up with a parallel comparison and this isn't anywhere close!

"We don't need to ban cars or anything like that. If gun dealers don't want to check people's background before selling guns, fine, but they will have to take the risk that they are selling guns to mass shooters."

Dumb azz, they already assume the risk with existing laws. Add your stupidity to the mix, not only would you create logistical bull sh it but potential harm to the consumer because the gun dealer could falsely accuse an innocent person of being mentally I'll. Which, could take years in court to defend.

        "Guns are not regulated enough."

        Man, you are dense!

"The recent rash of mass shootings proves it."

There are no guns in China, have you not see the mass murders being committed using knifes, hatchets, iron pipes. The crazies will find a way!

".We need stricter gun laws if the current laws are inadequate.."

Wrong, dumb azz! We will never stop mass murder, guns or no guns, remember the Boston bombing. What we need is to put people back to work, stop dumbing down youth, try to reverse the mass dependency on government, teach parents to be parents, know that bad sh it happens, reach for support when it does happen, stop placing blame where there is none, stop being fearful, be observant, be kind, maintain our freedom, defend the Constitution, and simply believe in God so that we have a moral compass for direction.

Hillary both lied, obfuscated, and omitted several facts.

#1 There have been NO school shootings involving AUTOMATIC rifles. Automatic weapons are STRICTLY regulated under the National Firearms act.
#2 According to VP Biden "regarding the lack of prosecutions on lying on Form 4473s, we simply don’t have the time or manpower to prosecute everybody who lies on a form, that checks a wrong box, that answers a question inaccurately.” That is a felony offense.
#3 CNN challenged the "74 school shootings" lie.
#4 According to the FBI Universal Crime Reports more people are killed by blunt objects or "hands, fists, feet" than by ANY kind of rifle.

Being that there is a RIGHT to keep and Bear arms, that implies that there is a right to manufacture arms for sale. That issue was addressed in McDonald. Anti-gun people keep claiming that the 2A does not specify this, that or the other. It seems you want the amendment to state every facet of the arm...color, size, material, weight, length, girth, how many of this it can have, capacity, what day of the week it was made. You just cannot place infinite restrictions/allowances on something to cover each and every aspect of the item in question.
