Was trade for Bergdahl the right call?

Was trade for Bergdahl the right call?

After five years in captivity, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is free. But that's hardly the end of the story. While the Idaho man's friends and family and the Obama administration are hailing his release, the deal that set him free is getting heat from critics who say Bergdahl is a traitor who cost American lives and those who say the deal could cost American lives in the future. Full story

We want you to weigh in: Do you think Obama made the right decision to trade five Gitmo detainees for Sgt. Bergdahl?

Here's the thing... we were going to release these guys anyway.

These aren't Al Quaeda guys... they're Taliban officials. We have been in peace negotiations with the Taliban (who still rule half of Afghanistan) for the last 3 years. While not in complete control like they were before, the Taliban is a major political player in Afghanistan and they simply aren't going away.

the guys imprisoned who are being released are all Taliban officials from the government of Afghanistan before we invaded. Deputy Defense minister. Governor of Herat. Deputy Minister of Intelligence. Governor of Balkh.

We got the release of a US prisoner in exchange for something we were going to do anyway... releasing top Taliban officials from the prior government of Afghanistan (per the request of the CURRENT government of Afghanistan multiple times over the last 3 years)

Obama does in fact negotiate with terrorists and the release of the Gitmo 5 is proof of this fact.

President Obama lies through his teeth. He is a criminal. He has broken the law. He has no regard for the law. He does what he wants to do.

I believe that the release of the Sgt. was wrong. This should have been ran through congress. These people can do enormous damage no matter were they are if not supervised. The Sgt. creditability are at question. I do feel for his family. I know how they worry I'am a Viet Nam vet.

how many of you at that network wouldn't want he's son to be released despite of the circumstances after 5 years in captivity? so why not wait until the smoke clears and the dust settles before making a decision or comment on this matter? oh! and how many of you who criticize this soldier for whatever it is he did, have stepped up to serve in the military of our country. further more Ronald Reagan negotiated with Taliban leaders back in 1985 and gave them 5 thousand missiles along with saying the following: "this gentlemen are the equivalent of our founding fathers." and wasn't it George w. bush who released 500 detainees while in office? one last thing, had mitt Romney done the same thing this president has done to get our soldier back, he would be getting high phrases from the same ones that are criticizing today. Good discussion....
What a pity S.E. did not have a leg to stand on.
Once you get out of the realm of hysteria, things begin to look a little clearer.
