Is climate change here?
May 6th, 2014
05:39 PM ET

Is climate change here?

Climate change is here and will only worsen. Get used to more flooding, wildfires and drought, depending on where you live. Cities and states across America already are spending lots of money to respond.

Those are the take-home messages of a new White House report released Tuesday that is part of President Barack Obama's second-term effort to prepare the nation for the impacts of a changing climate such as rising sea levels and increasingly erratic weather.

The National Climate Assessment update said evidence of human-made climate change "continues to strengthen" and that "Americans are noticing changes all around them."

"Climate change is not a distant threat," said John Holdren, who directs the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. "It already is affecting every region of the country and key sectors of the economy." FULL STORY

At 6:30pm ET, Bill Nye the Science Guy debates with Nick Loris of the Heritage Foundation. S.E. Cupp and Van Jones will host the debate.

I have never written about this subject before in my life except in my book, titled The Naked President, where I give some mention about the universe and how we are destroying it.

I also try to compare earth to the moon by simply implying that the moon may have been a habitable planet before its 'Citizens' destroyed it just like we humans are destroying our own planet by neglecting to care about it.

We simply won't listen to Stevie Wonder when he says 'I just called to say I love you.' Perhaps when we do listen to him, maybe he will be long dead and it will be a little too late for us. But now we are busy with building ourselves Nkandla, which will perish of course when the time comes and the time is coming faster.

We only care about annexing Kiev, Iraq and Afghanistan and making sure that Kim Jong Un toes the line when the glaciers are melting fast. We worry about who will host the next Soccer World Cup when the polar bears worries about the waters that they call home now instead of the usual ice. Imagine coming home to find your house moved by a Tsunami?

According to Scientists, climate change is taking place faster than expected and this is evident in torrential rains in the US and other parts of the world, what a frightening sight we have seen in Haiti. The frequent hurricanes and other malevolent storms are caused by ozone damage and global warming.

One would have thought that the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami would have served as a wake up call for the world to take heed and notice that the universe was rebelling. Not that I'm saying the world should let Boko Haram kidnap more than 200 young girls or that alShabaab should have a free rein. It is possible that these terrorist groups minds may have been fuzzied by the Global Warming.

What I'm saying here is that the world must give 100% effort to finding those stolen/abducted/kidnapped girls and return them to their caring parents and terminate the nuisance and attention seeking Boko Haram once and for all. And in the same breadth and length give 100% attention to the escalating climate change which threatens the survival of all humanity.

The biotic process has had no much impact on the climate change and neither has had the variations in the solar radiation which the earth receives on daily basis. Anyway, isn't vitamin D an extract from the solar rays?

The biotic process might have been responsible for the seafloor spreading, who knows? But it has come in handy for us thus we have the universe as it is today with the different continents and the jostle for world power by the East and West nations. World domination is not a problem here, I should concur. But world destruction is one problem I should not or must not keep quiet about.

The Greenpeace Corps Organization cannot and should not fight this battle alone. The people of the universe need to shout with one voice and tell all the leaders to stop those unnecessary wars in the DRC, Sudan, Syria and other parts of the world. Mobilizing against each other will only serve to hasten the destruction of the world as we know it today. The world should actually mobilize against global warming and its effects and rehabilitate the universe as soon as possible. All the wars that are fought today comes because of the intoxification from the fumes of the Greenhouse Gas and the damaged ozone layer.

The Tectonic Plates, more especially the Continental Lithospheres are moving faster than usual thus the earth is experiencing so many major and catastrophic earthquakes.

In December 2013, South Africa/Gauteng/Pretoria experienced a rare and undocumented rain. Although and unfortunately this rain came at the time of the passing of one of the greatest leader of our time and history, that is Nelson Mandela, may his soul rest in peace. The rain was even dubbed the Mandela rain. But its aftermath is still visible as I write this.

We can't in no way attribute the destructive rain to an individual but to global warming. It was, indeed, global warming and climate change that visited and to tell us that more is coming soon. It is also unusual for rain to come in winter in South Africa but it does now. The rain that destroyed some infrastructure in 2014 in Limpopo, Western Cape, Gauteng and other parts of the country were not anger from some God but Global Warming in action.

We may have noticed more volcanic eruptions in areas that we have never known a volcano existed, for instance, the Democratic Republic of Congo's Goma region.

We have to reverse the gains and pains of the Industrial Revolution of the 18th century and save the planet at all costs or there will be no person left to read what I have written here today after the universe has taken its revenge.

We may just as well as be 'gay' and stop reproducing further offsprings because what will be the use of making babies when we have already condemned them with this Greenhouse Gas effect. Our next generation are the ones who will feel the wrath of global warming that has been thoughtlessly unleashed upon them by ourselves.

But I know that I'm not the lone voice in this. Someone hears me and is also taking action as well. The world as we know it is coming to an end, faster than anticipated. IPCC, do something, now.

When the world's top climate scientists all agree that climate change is going to destroy our economy and then cause
"societal collapse," it's time to do something. A revenue-neutral carbon tax, paid by fossil fuels to us, the consumers, would phase out the cause of climate change without hurting the economy. We've already paid $1 trillion in taxes for climate change disaster (NOAA website) and the IEA estimates five more years of delaying the transition to clean energy will cost $5 trillion more. people can use the tax rebate to buy solar and wind which will be cheaper than fossil fuels when they scale up. Time is running out. The IPCC. Says we have only 15 years to make 40% to70% cuts in CO2 emissions. See the volunteer Citizens Climate Lobby website for details on the consumer-friendly carbon tax eight Nobel economists support.

So this isn't real? Good grief people...when was the last time Antarctic ice sheets were collapsing? We are cutting off our noses to spite our faces! I live in Canada and the polar bears ARE suffering – more and more late freezes and early melts equals not enough food to sustain them over the summer.

⦁ The U.S. space agency NASA announced, the sea ice in the Antarctic has extended over an area of 19.47 million square meters at the end of September (2013). That is the highest since measurements began in 1979. “The winter maximum has been a record for on the second consecutive year” said Walt Meier, a meteorologist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. NPR Shock Report: ‘The Inconvenient Truth About Polar Bears’ — ‘There are far more polar bears alive today than there were 40 years ago.’ Global population of polar bears has increased by 2,650-5,700 since 2001. Now we have too many polar bears? Bear population numbers ‘may now have reached its carrying capacity.’ Have no fear Molly, the bears are doing just fine, and the Antarctic ice sheet fluctuates, it is just coming off of two record years in a row, just wait until next year.

In Oregon we have a saying: "Don't like the weather you are seeing now – wait for tomorrow and it will be different" (In many cases "wet" and "wetter". Climate Change is occurring daily. Watching storm cells form, do their thing, and break up on the "moving" weather map is like watching water boil. Ma Nature is a force to be reckoned with. I do agree that "man" has altered the face of the earth, and change has occurred. To the extent that Congress in passing a carbon tax bill to get more money out of folks – I don't think is a "climate changer", so much as I believe it is a ploy for politicians and government to open up another "revenue enhancement stream". Pure and simple it's about money, not about saving the planet.

I too am here in Oregon. Does that mean I should have a clue about climate science because the weather changes often? Of course not. Try reading what the experts have been saying for decades. There's no reasonable doubt. Humans are warming the planet and the consequences are not good. EVERY respected scientific institution that considered the issue concurs. It's well established science. I challenge you to prove me wrong. How about sourcing ONE credible scientific body or study to support your opinion?

The thing is, it's changing at an unprecedented speed and intensity because we're causing it. This is climate change on steroids and if we don't put on the brakes, we're headed for an atmosphere like that of Venus. That's just the chemistry, physics and math of the situation.

Thank you David – writing in CAPS will surely make your point of view more credible. However, here is the deal. Enormous claims require enormous evidence when it comes to science. The evidence is clear – climate change is occurring. Now, you can call scientists arrogant and smart (well, let’s face it, the majority are smarter than you); but attacking scientists is a fallacious tactic...the facts are real. Now, you can protect from divestment of your private interests and change of your fossil-fuel-and-large-steak lifestyle, but you will have to pay sooner or later…the damage from climate change will happen. Those who share your perspective show lack of foresight. Let me ask you this, even if this was a huge conspiracy (like smoking or leaded gasoline) how terrible would it be that we create a more sustainable and ecologically sound world to live in; if not for us, then for our future generations?

Instead of Bill Nye, who is a fine person but not a climate expert, you should have on a real climate scientist to explain the science without being fillibustered by a rightwing troll. Invite Gavin Schmidt or Michael Mann on and give them the time to explain things without having the conversation constantly derailed by ad hominem and red herring "arguments" that the Heritage folks specialize in.

They miscalculated temperature increases by a factor of 4 for the last 15 years, why would we believe a 100 year predication.

I don't believe it. And I'm not going to be shamed into believing it by these arrogant, "smarter than thou," self-important, environmental poindexters, especially when my skepticism is all their fault to begin with. These unpersuasive scammers have been crying wolf and trying to defraud the public for years! It is no wonder that they are disbelieved now. I remember back in the 70's, when it was a "ozone hole" causing the "greenhouse effect" that was going to bring about a "new ice age." (You don't believe me? Just do an on-line search for the words "global cooling 1970's") Thus the lobbyists got their way, taxes and regulations.

Here are a few headline from the 70's (back when it was global cooling); "Science: Another Ice Age?" (Time Magazine, November 13, 1972) "The Ice Age Cometh" (The Saturday Review, March 24, 1973), "Scientists Fear Smog Could Cause Ice Age" (Milwaukee Journal, December 5, 1974), "B-r-r-r-r: New Ice Age on way soon?" (The Chicago Tribune, March 2, 1975). Books were written; "The Cooling: Has the Next Ice Age Already Begun?" (Lowell Ponte, 1976), "Blizzard – What Happens if it Doesn’t Stop?" (George Stone, 1977). And talk about celebrity scientists like Bill Nye, back then we had Carl Sagan, and Isaac Asimov "A Choice of Catastrophes – The Disasters That Threaten Our World" (1979), and (not a scientist but he played one on TV) Leonard Nimoy "The Coming Ice Age" (In Search Of TV Show, Season 2, Episode 23, May 1978). Back then it was the same argument as it is now, "these scientists are smarter than we are and they know what they are talking about." They made it seem like you were a Luddite with a planetary death wish if you doubted the "accepted scientific fact" that the end of the world was just around the corner (they were worse than the Jehovah's Witnesses).

This scam goes way back; The existence of the greenhouse effect was argued for by Joseph Fourier in 1824. The argument and the evidence was further strengthened by Claude Pouillet in 1827 and 1838, and reasoned from experimental observations by John Tyndall in 1859, and more fully quantified by Svante Arrhenius in 1896. In 1917 Alexander Graham Bell wrote “[The unchecked burning of fossil fuels] would have a sort of greenhouse effect”, and “The net result is the greenhouse becomes a sort of hot-house.” No doubt a long time ago a crop destroying wildfire was blamed upon a fire-breathing dragon (carbon production) to whom some group of witch-doctors (ancient scientists) insisted that the villagers appease with sacrifices (taxes and regulations). It is no wonder that the public has become inured to this blatant fear mongering, and it's not the people's fault either; the fault lies squarely with the "wolf crying" scientists themselves (even if they turn out to be right in the future, you can't blame people for being skeptical today).

Burning fossil fuels does has an effect on it. – But, for instance, we're only now digging up dirt from our closest planet and asteroids coming close to the earth keep taking us by surprise and getting only back page news status. Yet the climate change folks keep claiming that things like solar flares, possible variations in our obit and our exact proximity to the sun, variations of the core temperature of the earth, methane released by natural sources, volcanic activity, etc............. "have already been factored out" and that we evil human's and our byproducts are the only or main reason for global warming and that if we dare question that, we are somehow "science deniers". – Now who's really denying science when they try shutting down anybody that questions their theory or asks questions about other legitimate factors and variables?

For example, more than two million people living on the banks of Lake Kivu in central Africa are at risk of being asphyxiated by gases building up beneath its surface, scientists have warned. But how much did we know about that before it actually happened.

It is estimated that the lake, which straddles the borders of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, now contains 300 cubic kilometres of carbon dioxide and 60 cubic kilometres of methane that have bubbled into the Kivu from volcanic vents. The gases are trapped in layers 80 metres below the lake's surface by the intense water pressures there. However, researchers have warned that geological or volcanic events could disturb these waters and release the gases.

The impact would be devastating, as was demonstrated on 21 August 1986 at Lake Nyos in Cameroon, in West Africa. Its waters were saturated with carbon dioxide and a major disturbance – most probably a landslide – caused a huge cloud of carbon dioxide to bubble up from its depths and to pour down the valleys that lead from the crater lake.

Carbon dioxide is denser than air, so that the 50mph cloud hugged the ground and smothered everything in its path. Some 1,700 people were suffocated. How much did we know about that before this actually happened.

I want a safer planet, clean air and water as much as the next person, but we may have to consider that we humans may not be the single biggest factor in all of this. Yes we do have some effect on global warming and we do still need to minimize pollution, but it's not all up to us. We're really not that aware of everything going on in our vast solar system or even our own planet and exactly how it is affecting us and those who claim that we do have it all figured out would be the real science deniers.

And we're not the bad guys right now. Countries like our USA, Germany, Canada, Japan and other countries like them are trying to do the right thing to help limit and clean up pollution. But countries like Communist China, India, Mexico and many others are not doing the same. Just check out the current Chinese extreme pollution issues – We all live in the same world, but not every country plays by the same rules. You Don't see China, India or Mexico with anything even close to our EPA, DEP, OSHA, etc........ – Do you?

Foreign Lobbyists here in the US promote sending US jobs to countries like Communist China, India and Mexico where they work for slave wages, no benefits, no OSHA safety standards or No Real Environment Regulations. It also doesn't help us compete when many of these Chinese company's factories are subsidized by China's communist government.

Let's get real America – The American People need leaders who will stop selling us out to countries like Communist China, India and Mexico.

It's called polarizing and distracting – I guess gay marriage and abortion aren't cutting it anymore. So now it's climate change.

What about Communist China's Extreme Pollution Issues, Climate Change and Unfair Trade

Trade with countries like Communist China, India and Mexico is pretty much a One-Way-Street. – And how's that been working out for the American People, the Real American Economy and the Health of Our Planet?

Our economic problems didn't happen overnight. It's been happening over the past 25 years, but the American economy was kept going by middle class American consumers tapping into the equity on their homes to enable them to continue to buy the cheap outsourced products until they were completely tapped out, out of good jobs and or out of work.

On the US Department of Commerce's US Census Bureau website there's a graphic showing how our trade imbalance has gotten progressively worse over the entire period from 1989 to the present and how it's really accelerated at an increasingly greater rate each year since 1999.

Just go to the site and check it yourself: http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/balance/c0004.html

    www(dot)census(dot)gov(slash)foreign-trade(slash)balance(slash)c0004(dot)html

We can thank "our leaders" from both sides and the WTO for that.

If these "free trade" agreements were so good us, why did our trade deficit keep getting increasingly larger and larger during this span of time.

Increasingly way more money going out of our country every year versus coming in every year.

    It's Not Rocket Science.

Regardless of what the Free-Traitors keep trying to sell us, we can see what's real. The American People need to just trust their own instincts, common sense and what they've seen actually going on all around them versus all of the nonsense that the Free-Traitors are still trying to sell us.

Also most counterfeit goods are produced and manufactured in Communist China, making it the counterfeit capital of the world. In fact, the counterfeiting industry accounts for 8% of China's GDP.

Trade with countries like Communist China, India and Mexico is pretty much a One-Way-Street.

We can bring manufacturing back to the USA where we're less likely to pollute than they are in China, India and Mexico and at the same time provide a much needed boost to the Real American Economy and the American People.

The bottom line is that "Our Government" has to protect domestic industry and the jobs that those industries provide. If they do that, the rest will take care of itself.

Bringing manufacturing back to the US not only gives jobs to the US citizens who would be working in those manufacturing facilities, but to the people that would be working in the businesses that would spring up all around them. This should also include the safe harvesting, production and distribution of our own natural energy here in the USA, rather than paying for fuel from countries where they hate us. Let's keep that money and those jobs here in the US.

Nowadays it's obviously not about being either lazy or uneducated as many try to profess, but about wages, expenses and regulations that are not even remotely close to the wages, expenses and regulations in our country.

If more people would have listened to Ross Perot back in 1992, America wouldn't be in this mess.

The “Global Market Place” is not a level playing field! The whole idea of the tariffs is so we can pay our factory workers a decent wage and not be blown out by these other countries where they don’t play by the same rules.

The bottom line is that “Our Government” has to protect domestic industry and the jobs that those industries provide. If they do that, the rest will take care of itself.

We may have to pay a bit more for products made here in the USA by US citizens, but at least we'll still have jobs and a future for our children.

We should bring manufacturing back to the USA where we're less likely to pollute than they are in China, India and Mexico and at the same time provide a much needed boost to the Real American Economy and the American People.

Unfortunately both sides are still able to get most people to buy and drink their flavor of Kool-Aid, only it's just different flavors of the same brand and both flavors are making the American People and the Real American Economy sick.

    Wake the heck up America!
